Two Week Tiny Goal Challenge

Goal setting and habit change can feel overwhelming! Creating big expectations for yourself can seem like a setup for failure, leading to feeling stuck, discouraged, and ashamed.

It’s free and all are welcome!

So let’s not do that! There are many paths to goal setting and habit change, and I’m a firm believer that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Discovering an approach that works uniquely for you empowers you to pursue exciting goals and make changes that truly matter. The key is finding what works for you.

If traditional goal-setting hasn't clicked for you, and you've ever felt it was because you did it wrong, consider that those approaches simply weren't the right fit for you. In a world that urges us to crush goals, implying that if you're not super-productive and strictly disciplined, something's wrong with you, it's important to recognize that you have other options.

Good news: there are many other ways to approach goals and habit change. If there are things you want to explore, play with, accomplish, change, try out, do more of, learn about, bring to reality… there’s a path for you to do so. And, you can do all of this in a way that’s gentle, kind, adaptable, compassionate, flexible, and playful.

If you’re nodding your head right now, I strongly recommend you give tiny goals a try. A tiny goal is a bite-sized action that generates momentum for a habit change, an objective, or even a wildly ambitious goal. A tiny goal is customized for you - your energy and time availability, your priorities, and your desires.

Despite its diminutive descriptor, a tiny goal can be a powerfully productive step towards a wildly ambitious goal. When you’re looking at a big goal - one that really matters to you - it’s easy to get stuck on “I don’t even know where to begin.” Another part of you may even be saying “If I can’t do everything, I can’t do anything;” an all-or-nothing approach that’s likely to stop you in your tracks. A tiny goal encourages you to ask “What is one small step I could take towards this goal?” Identifying and taking that small step generates momentum, guiding you to identify the next tiny action. Before you know it, you’re actively making progress toward that wildly ambitious goal.

Tiny goals shine in habit change too. Declaring “I should exercise more” is probably vague and daunting, not to mention shaming - not a recipe for success. Approaching a habit change with a tiny goal encourages you to identify one small step of the habit. Doing that single, little step consistently for a while will show you that you can keep your word to yourself. Do it a bit longer, and you’ve developed a habit. At some point, you may add to the tiny goal, or make an additional tiny goal. All the while, you maintain a habit you wanted to … and all this without shaming yourself!

Tiny goals get you going. And while you’re going, you may notice a shift in how you feel about your goal. In contrast to the pressure and shaming tactics associated with some traditional goal methods, tiny goals invite a kind, gentle, compassionate, curious, and even fun approach. Instilling a positive relationship with your goals makes it easier to see them through. Tiny goals for the win!

Round 2 of the Two Week Tiny Goal Challenge is starting Monday 2/26/24. All are welcome - just join this Facebook group to participate. I look forward to seeing you there!
